Country singer and

animal advocate Miranda Lambert

had her heart broken recently when two of her rescue dogs crossed the rainbow bridge.

Lambert posted emotional messages

on Instagram

about losing Delta Dawn, a lovable little dog that frequently joined her on tour, and Louise, a Pyrenees who did a stellar job of protecting her farm animals in Tennessee.

Lambert shared videos and photos of herself cuddling with Louise, « the fluffiest, most protective gal pal I could ever ask for. » And she memorialized

Delta Dawn

with lots of tail-wagging videos and adorable outfits, including multi-colored bandanas and a taco costume.

« What a joy she was to our entire family, »

Lambert’s mother

and fellow

Muttnation founder

, Bev Lambert, commented on her daughter’s post, calling Delta Dawn « the best of the best. »

Despite her grief, « The House That Built Me » singer reminded her fans that adopting is always worth it.

« I want yall to know that I’m an advocate for rescue because I live it out and everyday I am blessed with the joy of having these animals in my life, » Lambert said. « And then some days, like today, I’m so heartbroken to have lost them. To love this big you have to hurt just as big. They are worth it. »

« So please remember this summer while you are home in your back yards with your families to consider bringing home a shelter pet to be part of those memories, » she added. « They will change your life for the better. »

Her mother also chimed in with a

plea for pet adoption

. « There’s so much talent, love, loyalty and friendship waiting for you in shelters. Yall go find your best friend! »
